Seisenbergklamm in Weissbach bei Lofer
Just a few minutes walk from the Hotel
Just a few minutes walk from Hotel and Restaurant Frohnwies you can find the natural monument, Seisenbergklamm. The entrance to the gorge from the town centre of Weißbach bei Lofer is well-posted and impossible to miss. For those who would like to go about things a bit more comfortably, there are also numerous parking spots to arrive by car in the area. The Seisenbergklamm carries a long history. More than 12,000 years after the end of the last ice age the thaw began and the Weißbach channelled its indefatigable path through the lime rock, which lay beneath the glacial deposits. Since the gorge is very small and deep, today it can be safely estimated that the Weißbach never carried huge amounts of water.
In 1831 the first wooden stairs were erected in the Seisenbergklamm and the 600 m long gorge was made accessible to visitors. Today the Seisenbergklamm is fully developed and opened up for tourism. On hot summer days, the Seisenbergklamm displays an impressive and affective spectacle in the cool, refreshing surroundings. From the starting point in Weißbach bei Lofer you can hike for around an hour across the Seisenbergklamm, where you will reach the district of Hintertal. Furthermore, the gorge is perfectly suited to be an ideal starting point for many different hikes in beautiful Weißbach!
